1989 is the year in baseball cards of Craig Biggio rookie cards (a player with a chance to be a hall of famer).  Craig Biggio has recently retired from baseball, and his consistency and excellence in the sport of basketball is something that is rare for baseball players as he has emerged from the steroid era without being implicated.  His rookie cards consist of ones from 1988 Fleer Update (#89 in the set), a great 1988 Score Rookie/Traded set card #103T, and a fine selection of cards from 1989 including from Upper Deck.  Also, obtaining autographed and game worn jersey cards of him is a great idea.

His rookie cards are in the card years that also contain rookies of Ken Griffey Jr. (1989 only), Randy Johnson, John Smoltz, Curt Schilling, Gary Sheffield, and many others.  Those are the highlights of other cards you can receive in boxes and sets of this year (1989 mostly as Biggio was an exception as far as having a 1988 update card).  Also, there are many other lesser valued (currently) rookie cards that are available in this year of cards, as well as many hall of famers such as Nolan Ryan.

In conclusion, a rookie card of Greg Maddux is great for your baseball card rookie collection because he is a future hall of famer, and was a great pitcher.
